Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

Journal of the Indonesian Medical Association-JInMA (Majalah Kedokteran Indonesia- MKI) publishes peer-reviewed scientific research articles that are relevant in the following fields: Health, Medicine, and Basic medical science. Besides research articles, JInMA also accepts materials, such as Case Reports, Literature Review, and Editorial.

  1. Research Articles : Scientific articles that are produced from an original research in the field of Health or Medical Sciences. Article structure must follow the following guide:
     
    1. Introduction
      Included in this section: Background, define problems, and research objectives.
    1. Methods
      Included in this section: Research design, time and place, population and sample, data measurement and data analysis.
    1. Results
      Can be presented in the form of text, table, figure, or graphic. A concise legend
      (not repeating on what have been stated on the paragraph) for each table or figure must be included in the manuscript file.
    1. Discussions
      Contained a discussion of the results obtained. Compare the results obtained with
      the previous studies and analyze. Do not repeat on what have been written on the
      Results section.
    1. Conclusion
      Conclusion should contain a concise statement(s) of the author(s) opinion about
      the research’s results.
  1. Literature review : is a scientific article that are made from reviewing journals or other literatures in the field of Health or Medical Sciences. The idea should be novel and the article should be aimed in the continuation development of the medical field.

  2. Case Report : is a scientific article composed of an intriguing case and relevant to be published. Article structure must follow the following guide:

    1. Introduction
    2. Case
    3. Case Discussion
    4. Conclusion

 

General Information
Manuscripts are accepted for review with the condition that they are submitted solely to Journal of the Indonesian Medical Association-JInMA (Majalah Kedokteran Indonesia- MKI). Submission of an article implies that the work has not been published previously if accepted, it will not be published elsewhere. To prevent duplication, JInMA will not accept work that is under consideration for publication elsewhere.

All author(s) must all have been agreed on the manuscript submitted. This condition must be fulfilled by filling in the forms attached in this page.

All manuscript submitted to JInMA will be reviewed by professionals in the according specialties of the work (peer-review) and the editorial team. Manuscripts needed to be revised, whether on the article structure or the content, will be send back to the author.

Studies on patients or volunteers requre ethics committee approval and should be documented in the Methods section of the paper.

Along the process of submission and article review from JInMA, if author(s) are willing to publish the article elsewhere, author has to informed JInMA beforehand and submit a letter of an article’s withdrawal.

Article Structure
The manuscript, including tables, figures, and references must be typed on a paper size A4 (21.5 cm x 28 cm), line spacing 1.5, with a limit of 16 pages.

Title Page
The Title Page should include the title of the manuscript, authors’ full name, departmental and institutional affiliations of each author. One author should be designated as the correspondent and should be stated, with complete address, phone number, and e-mail address. The corresponding author is responsible for communicating with the Editorial Team. The Editorial Team will not provide status update or decision information to anyone other than the corresponding author. The title of the manuscript should be kept short (5-15 words). For Case Reports, it is recommended for the amount of the authors not exceeding 6 people.

Abstracts and Keywords
Abstract for Research Articles, Literature Review, and Case Report is required both in Bahasa and in English, composed of one concise paragraph of maximum 250 words. The abstract should state briefly the purpose of the research, the methods, the principal results, and the major conclusion. An abstract is usually presented separately from the article, so make sure it must be able to stand alone.

Immediately after the abstract, provide 3-5 words for the keywords. These keywords will be used for indexing purposes.

Content
The manuscript is must include the following subheadings:

    1. Introduction
    2. Methods
    3. Results
    4. Discussion

Units that are included in the text should be stated in System International (SI units). Non-standard words, abbreviations, or uncommon abbreviations should be avoided, yet if essential, they must be defined at their first mention. Do not start the sentence with a number, if needed, convert the number into its alphabetic form.

Tables
Table should be self-explanatory and should supplement, not duplicate the text. Every table has to be typed with a line spacing of 1.5. A concise title should be supplied for each table. All tables should be numbered according to their sequence in the text of the manuscript. Every column must have a subheading. An explanation of the table should be made on the foot note of the table, not in the title. Elaborate all the non-standard abbreviations contained in the table on the foot note of the table. One manuscript can only have a maximum of 6 tables.

Figures
All figures should be numbered according to their sequence in the text of the manuscript. One manuscript can only have a maximum of 6 figures.

Statistic methods
Explain the statistics methods used to analyze the data in detail on the Methods section. An uncommon method should be written in detail with the references used.

Acknowledgement
This section should be limited to professionals or institutions who provided any writing, editorial, statistical, funding, or technical assistance.

References
References are written in a Vancouver style, and should be numbered according to their sequence in the text of the manuscript, not in the alphabetical order. All author(s) from the articles cited should be written down, but should not exceed 6 names. If there are more than 6 authors, write down all the 6 authors mentioned first and followed by et al. The references used should be limited to studies that are published on the last decade. Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journal published by th International Committee of Medical Journal Editors, 2006 can be used as a guide.

Avoid using abstracts as references. For materials that has been submitted for a publication, yet have not been published, should be cited as an unpublished observation with the approval from the author(s). For manuscripts that has been accepted for a publication, yet have not been published, could be used as a reference, the manuscripts should be mentioned as an in-press. For example:

Leshnr Al. Molecular Mechanisms of Cocaine Addiction. N Engl J Med. In press 1996.

Avoid using personal communication as a reference, except that information provided could not be found in any literatures. If decided to use one, mention the source, date of communication, also written consent and confirmation from the source must be obtained.

      Here is an alternative if the journal has continuous pages in one volume. The month and the edition number should not be mentioned.
